Snyder/Gratuities

The US Supreme Court’s June 2024 Snyder v United States decision creates a safe harbor for legally paying gratuities in certain inappropriate instances to state, local, and other organizational officials. C4I believes that this decision is flawed.

In early August 2024, we provided detailed critiques of the decision’s reasoning and legislative recommendations to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees to change the relevant federal statute (18 U.S.C. Sec. 666). Corrective legislation was introduced in both the House and Senate in late August 2024, and C4I has submitted comments to both committees and again made recommendations. We are collaborating with other organizations to help pass this legislation.
